Jayden Reed to Miss Rest of Season with Neck Injury

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed’s season has come to an abrupt end as he will undergo neck surgery and be placed on injured reserve, head coach Matt LaFleur announced. The surgery stems from an injury Reed suffered during a Week 2 game against the New York Jets. According to LaFleur, the surgery is not expected to be career-ending.
Reed’s injury occurred early in the game on September 20, after which he was carted off the field. The incident left him to spend the night in New Jersey for immediate treatment rather than traveling back with the team. LaFleur described the event as ‘a pretty scary deal,’ highlighting the impact of seeing a team member in such a critical condition right on the field.
This marks the second consecutive season Reed has been placed on injured reserve early on. Last season, a broken collarbone sidelined him in the same week, though he made a return later in the season. Following his recovery, Reed was secured on a three-year contract extension worth $50.25 million in April, emphasizing his value to the team.
Reed was leading the Packers’ truncated receiver lineup this season along with Christian Watson and Matthew Golden. His absence will likely increase pressure on Watson and Golden to step up and fill the void left by Reed’s injury. Watson has so far led the team with significant numbers this season.
